Coastal Speedway Information
My father was the promoter of coastal speedway from 1955 to 1957. He converted the old horse race track to auto racing. He was able to successfully promote racing because he came up through the ranks of racing in the early days and even into the Nascar era. I have a few photos of racing in those days at Coastal.

Marion Cox-50A
Archie Downs recently acquired the 1940 Ford coupe #50A that belonged to Marion Cox and was driven by Roy Bentley. The car is currently at Palmetto Motorsports in Myrtle Beach waiting for restoration. Documentation and photos are being studied while parts are being accumulated for the restoration. Mr.Downs owns several vintage racecars but treasures this "barn find" as being one of the most significant early stock cars of all times.

Another "barn find"
Ron Miller, general manager of Palmetto Motorsports and track champion at Myrtle Beach Speedway recently acquired the 1963 Ford Fairlane 500,#17 late model sportsman once owned by Lonnie Cox of Hemmingway, S.C. Ron is planning a partial restoration and is currently seeking an engine for the Fairlane.

Tom Lupo #83
The yellow and white #83, 1955 Chevrolet driven by Tom Lupo has been restored and was unvailed at the Darlington Vintage Racing Festival on Labor Day. Tom was present and excited to once again see the 1964 RAMBI Track Champion. The car is currently being shown at car shows and festivals and is being prepped to race in Savannah Historics on October 30, 31. The car was restored by students under the guidance of Chris Hartle and Ron Miller at Palmetto Motorsports.
