SpeedWay Park
My most vivid memories of Speedway Park was LeeRoy Yarbrough in the Red Moores Garage #39. There were three or four of these bright red modifies built in a very short period of time. The last one I remember was a sedan bodied #39 everyone in the grandstands said was a Buick. To this day I don't know if it was the sheet metal or the engine that was Buick. Lee Roy wrecked it the first time out anyway and it was never seen again. Lee Roy liked to start fights after the feature, usually preceded by removing his shirt. Never was happy with the payoff if he won. This was long before he became famous and learned some manners!! Lee Roy for sure was from "the wrong side of the tracks" in JAX and his early personally showed it. The picture of Eldon is a "late model" (street stocks today). It was the class at the speedway no one looked forward to and was unofficially called the junkers. Bill Shaw also had the tag "Wild Bill" Shaw, at least by the track announcer. Great pictures. Hope you have more to post!!
