The 1/2 clay track was constructed 5 miles from the beach on hi-way 501 to replace Coastal Speedway, which closed after the 1957 season. The Racing Association Of Myrtle Beach Inc.(Rambi) had efforts and financial support of more than 230 local business and civil leaders. The original plan was to later expand to a 1 mile high speed asphalt track.
