|The 50 lap Nascar Late Model Sportsman race was held at the ½ mile paved Middle Georgia Raceway on Saturday night June 21st,1969. Bob Leach of Stone Mountain, GA started the night off by winning the pole position driving. Leach was driving a 1964 Chevelle.
When the green flag dropped, Leach the 1966 track champion quickly went to the lead. On lap 24 a wreck happened in the first turn involving Wayne Buzzell, R.L. Gregory, and Robert Crapps. Gregory ended up hitting the first turn wall.
The race went back to green, Bob Leach continued to lead, and never looked back. When the checkered flag waved on lap 50 Leach was 8 seconds ahead on 2nd place finisher Al Smith who was also driving a 1964 Chevelle. This was Leach’s 4th victory in 6 starts at Middle Georgia Raceway. There were over 3,000 fans in attendance.
